Welcome to the Dean's small corner of the universe and to JohnXXIII College. I am a full time post graduate student at the Australian National University doing East Asian Studies (Chinese-Japanese). I also work part time as the Dean and enjoy life as a resident and someone involved with many aspects of College life. My tasks include pastoral care, academic guidance, attempting to tell quality jokes, maintaining discipline and supervising the implementation of cultural, social and academic activities in College.
Johns has a proud 30 year tradition of building community and providing students with many opportunities to enjoy a fulfilling tertiary experience. On campus inside a picturesque Australian National University, the College offers numerous advantages to members of the community. Being comparatively smaller than some of the larger residences, the College has a real supportive spirit that is displayed on the sporting field, in academic pursuits and in a social environment.
The local community is lead by a small group of Residential Tutors in pastoral care roles, readily available to help students in any way possible. The Academic Tutors provided within the College are available to cater to the study needs of the students. The Residents Association is a body that ensures the year is full of sporting competitions, social events and other activities. Johns is the current title holder of the Universitys coveted Sports Shield. John's tradition also prides itself on the Annual Ball (Black-Tie), the drama production, the formal dinners (with academic gowns) and theme dinners held throughout the year.
Australia's multicultural heritage is also increasing reflected amongst the Johns community. In the past many students at the College came mainly from country New South Wales and other parts of Australia. However, the community now has a truly international flavour. Students from some 15 countries contribute to the diverse environment and make up the International Society that encourages students to become involved with activities in the College and experience a unique Australia. Informal English as a second language classes are held along with an International Dinner.
Johns has a proud history and an exciting future. This history is contributed to by each student who passes through the College. Students, who not only contribute to making Johns a better place but are also enriched by the enjoyable life that is JohnXXIII College. Discover the difference!
